Marhaba from Aleppo

View 2002 Russia & Europe via Lebanon & Syria on alexchan's travel map.

We're now in the northern city of Aleppo [Aleppo-travel-guide-1185271], home to the greatest souqs (markets) in the Middle East. Russian seems to be the second language here, as it wasn't long ago when they started came down here for big shopping trips. Now it seems that Russian prostitutes are plying their trade here ... we have seen very pretty foreign women being escorted by burly-looking bodyguards.

Back to trading of the more wholesome kind, the souqs here are very authentic ... they are real working trading centres rather than touristy trinket-peddling mazes as in some other parts of the world.
