The ruins of Palmyra

View 2002 Russia & Europe via Lebanon & Syria on alexchan's travel map.

Today we went to Palmyra [Palmyra-travel-guide-1308235] (which we were going to do later, on the way to Damascus). That is the largest Roman ruins we've ever seen, covering about 50 hectares. It was set against a backdrop of Arab funerary towers, and an Arab castle on top of a hill. Spectacularly impressive indeed.
